NAture-based Nutrition therapy
with Sydney Carroll, RD, CD
Initial session- 60 minutes
Our first session is a chance to get to know each other and establish our relationship. My intention as your dietitian is to to understand how I can best support your healing.
We will meet in nature at Woodland Park by Greenlake in Seattle. We will briefly review paperwork and policies, and then deep dive into your food and body history. We will work together to identify your goals, and decided on our session frequency.
This time is all about you! Your ideas, autonomy and values are the backbone of our work together.
Follow up Session- 50 minutes
Follow up sessions offer the chance to get into the work. We will discuss what what a typical day of eating looks like for you, and map out a plan to address your healing goals. I will offer targeted nutrition education in service of your goals, and create space for reflection and inquiry along the way.
Unlearning can be just as important as learning- as we get to the roots of your food and body pain, I may bring gentle curiosity about the stories and ideas you hold about food and your body. We will refer back to your goals over time to understand what goals feel completed, and what areas still need our attention.
Why take our sessions into nature?
-
Research shows that being in nature is beneficial to physical, mental and emotional health. Getting outside helps regulate the nervous system and sleep cycles. It also boosts mood and lowers blood pressure. These benefits may amplify our healing work and support your wellbeing!
-
The beauty of nature is all around us. Nature’s color, texture, sounds and temperatures playfully invite us back into the senses of the body. Nature is a teacher that shows us the power of diversity and interconnectedness. With delight, inspiration and awe we may begin to observe our belonging to this Earth.
-
If you would like to, we may incorporate grounding into nature into our sessions. This could look like taking a moment to ground into the senses to observe nature around you at the open or close of session. As with all parts of our work together, this is optional. Whether you decide to actively engage with nature or not, its steady undercurrent of support is present.
